Traumatic Dental Injuries (4): Do They Differ in Children?

All what we have talked about was about completely formed permanent teeth.    But what about Primary "baby teeth" or permanent incompletely formed teeth??
Primary chipped teeth can be restored with a tooth colored restoration. However, if primary teeth were dislodged or knocked-out, usually they should not be replanted into their socket. The reason is their replantation may cause injury or damage to their permanent successor tooth that is growing in the bone.
Permanent incompletely formed teeth need spacial attention and follow up if they were injured. They do not always need root canal treatment. Their blood supply and the presence of stem cells may help keeping them vital and continue to form.
It is worth mentioning that these teeth should be managed by an endodontist as this is the only specialty that cares about the pulp and its vitality. Endodontists usually have the knowledge to make the decision of the treatment options available to treat this tooth.

Warm Regards...
